The service migration has been completed successfully. No errors have appeared on the router interfaces in the past few hours, and the technician has left the site.

As noted in the ticket, our new router at Starlight allows us to localize the BGP sessions, eliminating the need for two separate BGP sessions. As a result, the following BGP sessions have been decommissioned.

BGP peering (Group 2): (Will be decommissioned during the window)
ESnet (Starlight, AS293) (198.125.140.141, 2001:400:2004:a::1)
CERN (Starlight, AS513) (192.91.246.118, 2001:1458:0:2::2)
Internet2 (Starlight, AS11537) (205.189.32.240, 2001:410:101:21::2)
STARTAP (Starlight, AS10764) (74.114.98.70)
MREN (Starlight, AS22335) (205.189.32.73)
NASA-NISN (Starlight, AS297) (192.150.29.117 2001:410:101:50::2)
DREN (Starlight, AS668) (143.56.240.161, 2001:480:e:240a::1)

CANARIE has deployed a new router at Chicago Starlight. We will be re-terminating the Toronto-Starlight and Winnipeg-Starlight links onto this new router within the specified time frame. Each service may experience up to 10 minutes of downtime during this maintenance window. For partners with redundant peering, traffic will be rerouted accordingly.

Previously, CANARIE lacked routing infrastructure at Starlight, requiring us to route our BGP sessions through Winnipeg and Toronto for redundancy. The new router allows us to localize our Starlight BGP peerings, eliminating the need for two separate BGP peering sessions. As a result, we will decommission the Group 2 BGP sessions and retain the Group 1 sessions.

The following network services will be affected:

BGP peering (Group 1):
ESnet [Starlight] [AS293] (198.125.140.137, 2001:400:2004:8::1)
CERN [Starlight] [AS513] (192.91.246.122, 2001:1458:0:3::2)
Internet2 [Starlight] [AS11537] (198.71.45.194, 2001:410:101:20::2)
STARTAP [Starlight] [AS10764] (74.114.98.66)
MREN [Starlight] [AS22335] (205.189.32.69)
NASA-NISN [Starlight] [AS297] (192.150.29.69, 2001:410:101:51::2)
DREN [Starlight] [AS668] (143.56.240.49,2001:480:e:2403::1)
KREONet [Starlight] [AS17579] (134.75.108.33, 2001:410:101:30::2)

BGP peering (Group 2): (Will be decommissioned during the window)
ESnet (Starlight, AS293) (198.125.140.141, 2001:400:2004:a::1)
CERN (Starlight, AS513) (192.91.246.118, 2001:1458:0:2::2)

STARTAP (Starlight, AS10764) (74.114.98.70)
MREN (Starlight, AS22335) (205.189.32.73)
NASA-NISN (Starlight, AS297) (192.150.29.117 2001:410:101:50::2)
DREN (Starlight, AS668) (143.56.240.161, 2001:480:e:240a::1)
